The 2011 Ford Explorer will likely switch to a unibody platform when it arrives in the fall of 2010. This will give the midsize sport utility improved ride and handling in addition to better mileage through reduced weight. A switch to Ford's new family of EcoBoost engines is another fuel saving measure that's expected to debut in the next-generation Explorer. The Ford Explorer America concept shown at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show is a good indication of the styling direction for the upcoming sport ute.
